The Full Council

Purpose

The Council is an elected tier of local government. Other tiers, known as principal authorities, have a legal duty to deliver services such as education, town and country planning, environmental health and social services. Parish councils have the legal power to take action, but they have fewer duties and greater freedom to choose what action to take. Your Parish Council plays a vital part in representing the interests of the community it serves and in improving the quality of life and the local environment. Furthermore it influences other decision makers at a local, county, regional and national level and delivers services to meet local needs. In other words, you and your council can make a difference.

The Parish Council makes the major decisions, setting policy and delegating authority to the several committees to put into effect and ensure that the day to day work of the Council runs smoothly. The information provided in respect of each of the committees explains the work that your Council is involved in.

The Government is encouraging Parish Councils to deliver more services and play a greater part in their communities and we are seeking to do this with the cooperation of the City and County Councils. We are a listening Council and welcome your views.
