I was born in Kingsholm Gloucester and educated at St Mark's Infant's and Junior's Schools and continued my secondary education at Sir Thomas Rich's. This was followed by an engineering apprenticeship at Fielding and Platt.

Having become interested in local government through my father-in-law who was a member of the City Council for Westgate, I was elected onto the City Council for Kingsholm in 1972.

Four years later I became Sheriff and then Mayor in 1981 and eventually moved into Quedgeley in 1996 becoming a member of Quedgeley Parish Council in 2001. I am still very keen in helping the Quedgeley residents to ensure that they achieve the facilities they want in the parish and to make it a better place in which to live.
