Car Breaks and Bogus Callers

In the last 2 weeks there have been 11 incidents of theft of handbags from vehicles across the City, several from outside nurseries, with the common time being 14.00 to 17.15. Entry is via breaking windows. The offender for one was described as a 30-40 year old male, 6 foot tall, slim build wearing a high visibility jacket and riding a red mountain bike.

A warning is being put out across the County regarding Bogus Callers posing as Police Officers. In the last couple of weeks surrounding forces have reported many offences and Thames Valley had 8 offences reported in one day last week. There are 2-3 males and potentially a female involved, who have attended addresses of elderly people.

The offenders claim to be Officers stating they have detained persons nearby and need to search the address for evidence of a burglary.

The message as ever is not to let any strangers in to your home and if these circumstances arise please inform the police via the emergency number 999 so that they can make a quick response.
