Quedgeley Parish Council and Quedgeley Wanderers FC are delighted to let everyone know that our partnership has again proved successful and are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a £250,000.00 grant by the Robin Greaves Sports Foundation. Joe Alps from QWFC said "The foundation was set up in memory of Robin Greaves to advance amateur sport in Gloucestershire, Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire to promote and preserve good health by encouraging community participation in healthy recreation and sport. We are over the moon and most grateful to have been offered their support."
The aim is to provide a modest sports hall at Waterwells Sports Centre in Quedgeley to further enhance the site and encourage a greater range of sporting activities.
The announcement has come after months of work by both partners and clearly demonstrates the achievements that can be reached when organisations work together. The Parish Council is fortunate to be working in partnership with Quedgeley Wanderers FC for the benefit of the community and looks forward to the opening of the sports hall.
Originally the 5.7 hectare site was being grazed by cattle and horses then following a planning gain, finances were secured and phase 1 of the development to turn the land into a sporting hub in Quedgeley became a reality. Phase 2 quickly followed after a grant was agreed by the Football Foundation to build changing facilities that we believe are the best in the county. In 2007 a further injection of cash by Quedgeley Urban Village Limited allowed Phase 3, an all weather synthetic pitch, to be supplied and this has proved extremely popular. The latest grant from the Robin Greaves Sports Foundation will allow us to complete the latest development of the site and provide a much needed sports hall.
Cllr Julian Powell, chairman of the Joint Management Group said "We look forward to the next few months and are excited by this recent success. Waterwells Sports Centre is a site to be proud of and offers opportunities for sporting activities within Quedgeley that would not have been possible 10 years ago! We would like to improve the car park to the centre at the same time so if there is anyone out there able to sponsor this then please get in touch."
