Quedgeley Social Club

Following the opening of the Quedgeley Community Centre in 1995 a second phase of improvements was undertaken and at that time the idea was floated to add on a social club. It was intended that the profits from such a club would help in maintaining and paying off the loans taken out by the Parish Council to build the centre. As the Parish council is not allowed to run a commercial business, a group of Quedgeley residents joined together to form a management committee, and the Quedgeley Social Club Limited came into being.

With the help of a £5,000 loan from the Parish Council and another loan of £27,000 from Ushers Brewery in Trowbridge the club opened with members of the committee running the club unpaid. Such was the success of the venture that within 3 months a steward and paid staff were employed and 15 months later it was possible to pay off almost all of the loans.
The club came very near to closing down but with the help of several dedicated members and following negotiations with the Parish Council agreement was reached on a way forward.
Unfortunately this did come at a price as it was necessary to make the paid staff redundant and much of the work has been carried out by committee members.
Over the last few months a lot of hard work has been put in by the members in decorating and other improvements especially with the help of a donation of £5,000 from Quedgeley Community Trust to provide new carpeting.
The effect has been amazing and it is certainly a much better place to come for a drink and to meet and socialise with other residents of Quedgeley.

To use the club you need to be a member but at £7 a year per family this is definitely good value for money. The opening hours are very similar to those of a normal pub and at present these are Monday to Thursday 12 noon till 2.30 pm and 7.00 pm until 11.00 pm; Friday and Saturday 12 noon until 11.00 pm; Sunday 12 noon until 10.00 pm. Where possible we try to keep the price of drinks less than at the pubs.
Why not become a member and make new friends?
